Though it sounds like a trend Judy would try on “The Jetsons,”
the biggest beauty trend around the corner is freeze-dried cosmetics. A process
that involves freezing cosmetics at such a low temperature and pressure that it
dehydrates them and turns them into a concentrated powder, freeze-drying is
projected to be a major trend in the coming years.
You might be familiar with freeze-dried candy, as seen on
many TikTok channels, but the process can be used to make soups dry and
portable for hikers or to make makeup smaller, lighter and liquid free, as well.
With liquids still restricted in carry-on bags on airplanes to 3.4 ounces and
skincare routines getting longer and more complex, it’s no surprise that we would
want less liquid in our skincare formulas.
Another benefit is that freeze-dried cosmetics last longer,
so they require fewer preservatives, or none at all. As many of us clamor for
cleaner beauty, this is one way to achieve it. Beauty brands can also introduce
products that might not be stable enough in liquid form.
The advantages continue: because freeze-dried cosmetics take
up less space, they are cheaper and smaller to ship, creating a lower cost and
smaller carbon footprint. Freeze-dried products also have a lower molecular
weight and may possibly penetrate more deeply into skin.
The challenge to freeze-dried beauty is that it can be messy
for consumers to deal with. Some products require mixing at home, as they may require
rehydration before use. If you get the ratio wrong, it may also make the product less effective. Storing the different components can
be another nightmare. Luckily, brands are refining packaging for freeze-dried
cosmetics at a rapid pace, so they are becoming easier to use.
Here are some products that are already ahead of the trend:
2. Saro de Rúe Freeze Dried Hyaluronic Acid Anti-Aging System
Each of these little tablets is the equivalent of seven bottles
of hyaluronic acid. This system is a
powerhouse with a mix of hyaluronic acid for hydration, squalene for
anti-aging, and tocopherol for fighting UV damage. Mix with an activating serum in
your hand and massage into skin.
3. Voshbon Nourish Face Wash
Voshbon has a whole line of waterless cleansers for different needs and body parts.
Freeze-dried into powder, you just sprinkle cleanser granules onto wet hands
and rub to foam. One 40-gram bottle has the washing power of 400 milliliters of
liquid face wash.
4. Onélogy Megadose
Megadose tablets are like dissolvable multivitamins for your
face. Pick your skin concern, whether it’s hydration, fine lines or blemishes, and choose one of the five Megadose formulations that’s right for you. Dissolve
the tablet in your hand with a few drops of water, mix and apply like a
regular serum. You can even stack tablets to address multiple concerns at once.
5. Phytomer Rosee Visage Toning Cleansing Lotion
Not all freeze-dried cosmetics are little tablets. This
cleansing lotion is made with Oligomer, a freeze-dried seawater extract
that helps pH-balance the skin with 100 trace elements.
6. Acaderma The Oasis Barrier Booster
This anti-inflammaging and soothing serum gets its power
from Seh-Haw EX, which is made by freeze-drying the polyphenols from the Kinkeliba
plant. A plant with amazing healing properties, freeze-drying helps concentrate
it. This serum works great on dry or irritated skin.
7. Snow Fox Skincare Orbs
This starter pack lets you try each of the trio of Snow Fox’s
Orbs: Cica Exosome Treatment Orbs calms sensitive skin, Licorice Exosome
Treatment Orbs brighten and revitalize with licorice extract, and Ceramide

little ball. These orbs deliver concentrated ingredients smaller than the
human pore for a safe alternative to microneedling. Mix each orb with Cucumber
Recovery Serum to rehydrate and activate.
