1. Donating Unwanted Equipment and Food
Waste is just another part of the food chain loop that can get
in the way of a business’s green efforts. Beyond just composting, Chipotle has
a two-pronged approach to restaurant waste. First, they donate used equipment
from their restaurants, like grills and food processors, to local schools and nonprofits
so that they stay out of landfills. Second, with the Harvest Program, they
donate leftover food to local community organizations -- over seven million meals
to 1,000 organizations. That’s a lot of guacamole.
