1. Maine Coon
The Maine Coon is known for its friendly, gentle and tempered nature, making it an ideal companion. This breed is highly social and intelligent. Many Maine Coons even serve as therapy cats, providing comfort in hospitals and senior living facilities. Their playful, sometimes mischievous behavior makes them endlessly entertaining, as they are known to explore and “supervise” everything around them.
2. Ragdolls
Ragdolls are often called “puppy cats” for their doglike traits. They enjoy following their owners, playing and cuddling. Known for their silky fur and striking blue eyes, they are calm, affectionate and easy to handle. True to their name, Ragdolls often go limp when picked up and are gentle enough for children to carry. They prefer staying close to their family and are content living indoors.
3. Persian
Persian cats are one of the most popular breeds in North America. They have long, beautiful fur and a sweet, calm personality. Persians are not very active as they are happy relaxing on the couch and enjoy gentle petting and ear rubs from their owners. They love quiet time and being close to their people.
4. Tonkinese
Tonkinese cats are smart, fun and full of personality. They love to talk and will keep you company with lots of cute meows. These cats are super social and they’ll follow you around the house and always want to be part of what you’re doing. When they’re not being playful or curious, they’re all about lap time and cuddles.
5. American Shorthair
The American Shorthair is great for people who want a cuddly cat that’s not too clingy. They like to get attention on their own terms but also enjoy some alone time to do their own thing like bird watching. They have a sweet, easygoing nature and usually get along well with kids and other pets. As their name says, they have short fur, but it’s thick enough that they need a good brushing once a week.
