Now that you know where Alexa’s name comes from, get a load of these very creepy Alexa horror stories. By now we’ve all heard reports of her creepily laughing by herself, which Amazon claims is just the digital assistant thinking she heard a command to laugh (mmm, not sure I’m buying that one). There’s even some dark Alexa fan fic out there, because weird fan fic exists about everything, really.
Alexa has done plenty of odd things and I’ve noticed it first-hand. Once, when I asked her to read a story to my kids, she launched into Samuel L. Jackson’s profanity-filled telling of “Go the F@ck to Sleep” (apparently the only Audible.com book in my library -- hey, it was free!) and another time, at a family dinner, we asked her what kind of fish tilapia was and she launched into an explanation of lochia, a uterine discharge that occurs after childbirth, in front of parent, grandparents and children. I’ve never heard so many people yell “ALEXA STOP!!!” at once.
