"My work celebrates fluidity and our deep connection with nature. Growing up in the Arizona desert shaped me — its vast, surreal landscapes taught me that life and environment are inseparable. The desert holds a profound symbolism for me: it speaks of resilience, roots, and the beauty that blooms even in harsh conditions."

"The spaceman, stars, and spacey elements are a direct reference to Houston’s nickname, “Space City,” and NASA. Mockingbirds and magnolias, which are local flora and fauna, are recurring symbols in my public murals. While I considered including “swangers,” I opted for the DJ set as a nod to the legendary DJ Screw and the unique identity of Houston hip-hop. The talavera tiles in my work reference the local mom-and-pop shops, many owned by immigrants and first-generation families, that profoundly shaped my experience in the neighborhood where I grew up."
Derek Abella
"Growing up in Miami, the best image that comes to mind from my experience as a Latinx person in community is the beach. It’s something Miamians are lucky to be able to do year-round, and it was an easy way to gather family, friends, or both. Some of my fondest memories involve having music play alongside the sound of crashing waves, delicious snacks and fruits, and even a foldable domino table coming out at a friend’s birthday party toward the end of an August afternoon in the sand."
Larissa De Jesús Negrón
"To bring the painting to the bottle, I built the scene around the kind of arched window that frames doorways all over Old San Juan, so the landscape opens like a portal you're looking through rather than a pattern sitting on the surface. Hibiscus blooms, quenepa clusters, rolling green hills, and a garita on the skyline fill the view against a warm amber sky. By blending all these elements, the work becomes a surreal celebration of San Juan’s transformation: a place where art, community, and nature continue to come together."
