Once upon a time, pickleball was a lost art, reserved only for retirees who wished they'd picked up tennis as a kid. But pickleball has broken the mold, with more and more young folk getting out on the court.
If you're unfamiliar, pickleball is as if ping pong and tennis had a baby; the lined court is separated by a low net, you can play singles or doubles and the point is simply to score on your opponents by making them miss their shot at the ball. The rules are easy enough to follow, so long as you can whack a ball with a paddle, are light on your feet and prefer to stay out of the kitchen.
What they don't tell you about pickleball is how damn competitive it can be. Think you have what it takes? Stock up on this list of essentials before you head out onto the courts.
