"Bridgerton" and "Derry Girls" actress Nicola Coughlan is rapidly climbing to the top of our "Would Love to Grab a Beer With" list. The 34-year-old is a talent wunderkind, and her social media presence is class. Coughlan recently appeared (virtually, of course), at the Golden Globes, and, as Vogue pointed out, continued her streak of wearing designs heavily influenced by her Regency-era surroundings.
At London Fashion Week, she wore a Simone Rocha pearl-embroidered coat fit for a duchess, and Portia Featherington wishes she could get her hands on the pastel yellow Molly Goddard gown she debuted at the Globes.
But, of course, there had to be a party pooper at the ball. Amanda Richards, host of new podcast "Big Calf," wrote a tweet about Coughlan's look that may, as she and some in the comments pointed out, have been written with a sense of solidarity, but that rubbed Coughlan (and us) totally the wrong way.
Coughlan quickly responded, defending her fashion choice and quipping at Richards to maybe use her name next time.
The next day, Coughlan wrote a Twitter thread about separating someone's choices about their body from their work and talent, reposting an article she wrote for The Guardian in June 2018 called, "Critics, Judge Me for My Work in 'Derry Girls' and on the Stage, Not on My Body" and calling for interviewers to bring a full stop to commenting on actors' looks in discussions about their roles.
We, obviously, champion Coughlan's words and style, firstly because she's 110 percent right, but also because, again, did you see her outfit?
We think she looked fab, and fashion inspiration or otherwise, a black cardigan is a wardrobe staple. Here are TK of the best ones we found to elevate your outfit any day.
