In 2016, a woman arrives on the island of Martha’s Vineyard,
still grieving her mother’s death. She seeks out a woman who’s name is on a
piece of paper and learns of the Smith sisters, who held their family farm down
together in 1942. The teen girls form a book club as a way of escaping with
their reality, while soldiers from the U.S. Army arrive on the island and
U-boats lurk offshore. Soon, their book club connections lead to a way out, but
a mystery man threatens it all in this coming-of-age beach read.
