1. Paranormal - "Talk to Me" (2022)
Ghost stories get a Gen Z twist in "Talk to Me," a shockingly inventive and emotional take on the paranormal. When a group of teens discovers they can communicate with the dead using a mysterious embalmed hand, the thrills are instant — but so are the consequences. Equal parts heart-wrenching and horrifying, it’s a chilling reminder that some doors are better left unopened.
2. Found Footage - "As Above, So Below" (2014)
This claustrophobic descent into the catacombs beneath Paris proves that found-footage horror can still feel fresh and oh, so terrifying. When a group of explorers venture underground in search of a hidden relic, they find themselves facing their own personal hells instead. It’s part treasure hunt, part psychological nightmare and 100% panic-inducing.
3. The Occult - "The Witch" (2016)
Atmospheric, slow-burning and deeply eerie, "The Witch" pulls you into 1630s New England, where isolation and paranoia breed something truly unholy. Anya Taylor-Joy shines in her breakout role as a young woman caught between family fear and supernatural temptation.
4. Aliens - "Nope" (2022)

5. Suspense - "Blue Velvet" (1986)
David Lynch’s iconic "Blue Velvet" peels back the idyllic façade of suburbia to reveal darkness, obsession and a twisted underworld lurking beneath. Suspenseful, disturbing and totally surreal, it’s a haunting journey that keeps you on edge and questioning what’s really “normal.”
6. Slasher - "X" (2022)
Set in 1970s rural Texas, "X" delivers a bloody, suspenseful throwback to classic slasher films with a modern twist. When a group of filmmakers arrives to shoot an adult film on a remote farm, the elderly owners have other plans. Sexy, shocking and seriously tense, this one keeps you guessing until the very end. And if you enjoy it, Ti West created two more films, with "Pearl" (2022) as the prequel and "MaXXXine" (2024) as the sequel.
7. Clowns - "Killer Klowns From Outer Space" (1988)
Part sci-fi, part campy horror and all kinds of fun, this cult classic follows alien clowns wreaking havoc on a small town. With popcorn guns, balloon animals and candy-coated murder, this film is equal parts ridiculous and surprisingly scary when the lights go out.
8. Cults - "Midsommar" (2019)
Who says horror has to happen at night? "Midsommar" trades the shadows for daylight terror, following a group of friends who visit a Swedish festival that turns increasingly sinister. It’s unsettling, visually stunning and will make you think twice before joining any unique group activities.
9. Cursed Objects - "The Ring" (2002)
Watch a mysterious videotape, die seven days later. Simple, right? "The Ring" takes a modern urban legend and spins it into an unforgettable mystery dripping with dread. If you enjoy it, check out "Ring" (1998), the Japanese film directed by Hideo Nakata that this 2002 horror classic is a remake of!
10. Body Horror - "Videodrome" (1983)
David Cronenberg’s "Videodrome" is a mind-bending dive into technology, media obsession and physical transformation. As a TV executive discovers a broadcast signal that induces hallucinations and body distortion, reality itself begins to warp in terrifying ways. It’s the ultimate surrealist body horror experience, and the scares last long after the credits roll.
