1. The Stanley Hotel - Estes Park, Colorado
Stephen King checked into Room 217 in 1974, had a nightmare or two and left with "The Shining." Built in 1909, this Edwardian beauty serves up phantom piano music, mysterious laughter and one particularly fragrant spirit affectionately known as “The Stinky Man.” Former employees apparently loved it here so much, they just… never clocked out.
2. The Langham - London, England
Since 1865, The Langham has hosted Victorian doctors, German princes and even Napoleon III, all still roaming the halls like they misplaced their monocles, with room 333 being the crown jewel of paranormal activity.
3. Lizzie Borden House - Fall River, Massachusetts
In 1892, Lizzie Borden allegedly took an axe to her family, and now you can tuck in right where it happened, because nothing says “restful sleep” like a side of unresolved homicide. Guests report cold spots, whispering shadows and the uncomfortable sense that someone’s got their eye on you.
4. Glamis Castle - Scotland
Scotland's oldest inhabited castle has been standing since the 13th century, complete with medieval dungeons and the Grey Lady ghost. Lady Catherine got caught up in a tragic 1500s love triangle and apparently still hasn't processed her relationship drama enough to let go.
5. The Russell Hotel - Sydney, Australia
Once a sailor hostel, hospital and brothel, The Russell has seen some things — and apparently, some of those things are still hanging around. Room 8 is said to be haunted by a murdered sailor who takes his haunting duties seriously, often appearing beside sleeping guests.
6. Balingsholm Manor - Sweden
This serene Swedish manor dates back to the 1600s and is home to the ghost of a jilted lover who drifts through its halls, her sighs mingling with the sound of clinking wine glasses and creaking floors.
7. The Copper Queen Hotel - Bisbee, Arizona
Arizona's longest continuously operating hotel opened in 1902 and now hosts more than 16 ghosts who apparently love the dry heat. The most famous is Julia Lowell, a sex worker from the 1920s-30s who still checks in on guests.
8. The Hollywood Roosevelt - Los Angeles, California
Marilyn Monroe lived here during her early Hollywood days, and her reflection still appears in the hotel’s mirrors. Montgomery Clift reportedly paces Suite 928, rehearsing lines from "From Here to Eternity" for, well, eternity. It's the most glamorous haunting you'll ever experience, darling.
9. Hotel Sorrento - Seattle, Washington
Alice B. Toklas, famous for her avant-garde Paris salon lifestyle in the early 20th century, haunts the fourth floor, playing eternal bartender. Guests regularly spot drinking glasses moving on their own as Alice maintains her hosting duties from beyond the grave.
10. Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel - Banff, Alberta
This "Castle in the Rockies" opened in 1888 and features a bride who fell down the stone staircase during her wedding. Sam the bellman worked here until 1975 and is still earning his paycheck; he reportedly still helps guests with their luggage before mysteriously vanishing.
11. The Marshall House – Savannah, Georgia
Phantom children sprint through hallways, faucets turn on by themselves and Room 414 features doors that close without warning and items that play hide-and-seek. Author Joel Chandler Harris’s typewriter is heard still clacking away in his former room because apparently deadlines are deadlines, even when you're dead.
