In anow-viral Tweet, Mark Emlyn Evans states that Domino’s Pizza Japan has a new fish and chip pizza that insults both Italy
and Japan.
The pizza is a traditional tomato-sauce-and-mozzarella-cheese-covered
pie with toppings of fried fish, lemon, potatoes, basil and tartar sauce. Is
this truly an abomination, worse than any pineapple-and-ham combo could ever
be?
Domino’s promptly apologized for “causing trouble,” an
unusually earnest response for Twitter, but at the same time, seemed to stand
by their chaotic flavor mashup.
The fact that the pizza is covered with lemons seemed to be
the sticking point for lots of people, which is surprising since that ignores
the chunks of fish covering the pizza.
Defenders of Domino’s say, “Hey, haven’t you ever had a
lemon tart?”
And really, why are we picking on Domino’s when putting weird
things on a pizza is nothing new.
People began tweeting the pizza fails from

This Brazilian pizza seems to be out for revenge on Japan, as
it looks more like sushi than anything else.

I don’t know if it's real, but this person claims Pizza
Hut in Thailand sells a turkey intestine pizza. We can verify that it does sell
several seafood pizzas including one with cheese,
shrimp, crab stick, ham, pineapple and thousand island sauce, which is a
lot to process at once (both mentally and physically).
But we Americans should not act so superior with our pizza
topping choices. Frank Pepe’s Pizza of New Haven, Conn. has been serving a
white clam pizza to Yale students for almost a century and people line up for the stuff. So, it looks like every country has their pizza demons to reckon with, even us.
Meanwhile, the Domino’s fish pizza has been getting pretty good reviews from taste-testers. Tito says it’s fine and just needs malt vinegar, which does sound kind of good.
Domino’s Japan is so confident in this flavor that they were
reaching out to a select few, including the original poster, and offering a free
sample.
Mark quickly
changed his tune to complete acceptance after hearing that he'd get to try free (albeit fish and chips) pizza.
All is right in pizza world again…for now, anyway.
