1. "Keeper of Lost Children" by Sadeqa Johnson
This book shuffles between three different people: Ethel,
the wife of an American officer in 1950s Occupied Germany who helps mixed-race
children of GIs and German women find homes; Ozzie, a Black man from
Philadelphia who enlists in the desegregated army in 1948 and falls in love with
a German woman; and Sophia, a Maryland girl in 1965 who attends a white
boarding school, where a secret rocks her world. It’s a deeply moving story
about how these pieces fit together with love and war as the backdrop.
