Step 1: Supplies:
Dollar Tree offers a wide assortment of tools in its craft section and may also have clay available. If your Dollar Tree doesn't carry any, here is a link to a clay starter kit on Amazon. They also have acrylic stamp squares that you can use to help roll out the clay on, so you don't collect random crumbs or anything that remains on your table surface.
Magnets can be found in an assortment of sizes. In terms of glue, you will want to use either hot glue, an industrial-strength glue like Gorilla Glue or any permanent bond.
Step 2: Assembly
Find your inspiration for clay magnets on Pinterest or any social platform. You can create them straight from your noggin or test your whimsy by letting your hands do the crafting. You can even sketch out the size to make sure it matches what you envisioned. Pick a theme of food, drinks or cute picture frames. The options are endless.
Step 3: Bake
Set your oven to 300, and while that is preheating, grab a baking sheet and parchment paper. Spread out your creations on the parchment paper and bake for 15-30 minutes. They aren't biscuits, so a golden crust is not what you will be going for. Wait until that fifteen-minute mark to take them out and test that their pliability is non-existent. Let them cool before Step 4.
Step 4: Paint
If you want to customize even more, this is the time. Add vibrant lines or fun flowers with any type of paint or permanent markers. Stylize your surfboard or add a smiley face to your fries. Allow them to dry for ample time for Step 5.
Step 5: Seal
This can be an optional step, but one that will add a nice sheen to your creations. Grab Mod Podge or a clear coat of paint to create a gloss or matte finish. Follow with another round of drying and then Step 6 follows.
Step 6: Magnet Adhesion
Use your hot or permanent glue and attach your magnets. Let the glue dry, and then it's time to accessorize your fridge.
Step 7: Fridge Decoration
Add character to your pictures, reminders or saved cookie fortunes with your newly assembled clay magnets. Keep adding more and more to your collection or make batches for your friends. This is a fun idea for a group weeknight activity or easily a solo craft night for yourself.
