As a self-proclaimed book nerd, I sometimes find it difficult to balance book- and reading-themed home goods with, like, anything else. Have some empty room on a shelf? Books! Need some wall prints? Quotes! Find a random clock decorated with classic book covers? Hello, you. So, I find it hard to believe that I went this long without learning about book nooks.
It’s the bookshelf decor that has opened my eyes to a world of possibilities. These curated nooks are popped into your bookcase in between your novels, as if taking the place of a book itself, but they’re created so as to look like a magical little scene, a door into the fantastical worlds of your favorite books right before your eyes.
I can’t thank Twitter enough for this discovery.
Some are super recognizable (I spy the wardrobe that leads into Narnia, for example), but this is a trend that can go in absolutely any direction. The nooks can be as simple or fancy as your motivation and creativity allow, and it makes for an extra piece of decor that 1. you made with your hands, and 2. adds a heck of a lot of character to your home.
"Harry Potter" book nooks tend to get very elaborate:
And are you kidding me with this secret little door?!
Unbeknownst to me, though, these precious pieces of decor aren’t a new invention. Etsy shop owners have been touting their bookshelf creations for some time, so, naturally, I found some adorable ones that I’d love to purchase for my own bookshelf. Handy, because I’m a patient person, but not this patient.
Some of these aren’t, shall we say, cheap, but the craftsmanship that goes behind these lovely little pieces is incredible, especially when there’s electricity added to them.
I'm going to need someone to make me a "Pride and Prejudice"-themed Pemberley book nook.
