1. Trio: "KPop Demon Hunters"
Grab two of your besties for this triple threat costume. Pulled
from the hit Netflix animated movie, the demon hunters, AKA the Kpop group Huntr/x,
will be ruling the stage this Halloween. For this costume, coordinate in either
yellow and navy streetwear or white and black with military embellishments,
like epaulets on a cropped jacket. Remember the hair, too — Rumi has a long purple
braid, Zoey has space buns and Mira has long, flowing magenta hair that she wears
in two mini ponytails — to show off their killer style.
2. Twins: Smoke and Stack From "Sinners"
Michael B. Jordan pulled double duty in this year’s horror
blockbuster about two twins, Smoke and Stack, who meet evil when they return to
their hometown in the 1930’s South. You’ll need a friend for this one, extra
points for a lookalike. Wear your Sunday best tweed suits to play Smoke and
Stack. Stack wears a burgundy fedora, pocket square and tie, and Smoke has a
blue newsboy cap and blue dress shirt. Stack also likes jewelry like pinkie rings
and tie tacks, while Smoke has none, but whatever you do, make sure you bring
the swagger, like Jordan did.
3. Opposites: Glinda & Elphaba
Pink and green. Light and dark. Glinda and Elphaba from “Wicked”
and “Wicked: For Good” are all about contrast, and even though they are
connected, they couldn’t be more different. Recruit that friend that is unlike
you but still your bud. Glinda likes a pink, floofy princess gown and crown,
while Elphaba keeps it simple in a black gown, cape and black pointy hat. Elphaba
has the added bonus of green skin, so buy plenty of face paint. If you can
figure out how to recreate Glinda’s giant bubble, you get to rule Oz.
4. Ladies' Night Out: Blue Origin Female Astronauts
No one had higher highs and lower lows than the crew of the
Blue Origin space flight this April. Including Gayle King, Katy Perry and
Lauren Sanchez, they blasted into space and then had to face lots of opinions upon
return. Round up the ladies, especially the ones who aren’t afraid of a good
time, and dress in matching blue body-hugging bodysuits. Space? Meh. A night
with friends? Out of this world!
5. Couple: The Astronomer CEO Cheating Scandal on the Coldplay KissCam
The couple’s costume of the year is surely the
clandestine coworkers duo who dove for cover when they appeared on the big screen at a
Coldplay concert. One of you wears a blue polo, the other wears a sleeveless
black top and necklace. Uncomfortable public displays of affection land the
joke. Just don’t try to pull this costume off with your boss.
6. Platonic Buddies: Kendrick Lamar and SZA at the Super Bowl
Do you have that friend that will always say yes to being
your plus one? Then pull off this costume for two. One wears flared jeans, a blue jacket and a backwards cap. The other wears head to toe red
leather. Yell “Mustaaaaaaard!” all night ‘til your lungs give out.
7. Mixed Age Group: "The Pitt" Crew
If your group spans ages from Gen X to Gen Z, dress like the
doctors and nurses on HBO’s “The Pitt.” This is an easy and comfortable one because
you only need to wear scrubs. Light bossing around of the younger crew comes
with the territory.
8. The Boys: The "F1" Racers
If it’s the boys' turn to hit the town, dress up like a
gaggle of Formula 1 racers from this year's film. All white, too tight t-shirts and white coveralls
will have you feeling like Brad Pitt and Damson Idris. A swanky pair of
aviators is the icing on the cake.
9. Gamer Friends: "A Minecraft Movie" Team
You know your friends mostly in the online world when you game together, but you’re
going to meet up, IRL (in real life), for Halloween. Check out this idea: you each dress
as your favorite Minecraft movie character. Steve (Jack Black) wears a t-shirt,
jeans and a very full beard. Garett (Jason Momoa) is stuck in the ’80s with
acid-washed jeans, a pink fringed jacket and Pit Viper sunglasses. Dawn (Danielle
Brooks) has an orange and pink tracksuit; Natalie (Emma Myers) has a graphic t-shirt,
flowered skirt and blue cardigan; and Henry (Sebastian Eugene Hansen) has a
red hoodie and jeans. Just be on the lookout for villagers and chicken jockeys.
10. Man and His Best Friend: Superman & Krypto
Superman is a classic Halloween costume, but this year,
if the event is pet-friendly, make it a duo with man’s best friend. Your super
dog can be Krypto, a good boy who needs a little training and you can wear a traditional
super suit. If your dog gets out of hand, remind everyone that he’s “in character.”
11. A Blended Family: The Fantastic Four
In “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” the family unit is
Reed Richards and his wife, Sue Storm, but also her brother Johnny Storm, their
friend Ben Grimm and a baby (technically five). This costume is great for a
mixed group of heroes, all wearing a very mod jumpsuit in blue and white with
white boots, with a “4” on the chest. Take turns carrying a baby doll in a
carrier because it takes a village…of superheroes.
12. Grandma, Mom and Daughter: "Freakier Friday"
Moms, daughters and grandmas, we have the perfect
multi-generation costume for you. Straight from the Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee
Curtis flick, Grandma and Mom dress like a couple of teenagers, while kids dress
like moms and grandmas. Hilarity ensues.
13. Co-Workers: Co-workers From "Severance"
The lowest-effort costume for you and your coworkers is
to dress like the cast of the workplace horror-comedy “Severance.” Wear
business casual and try to guess if you’re innies or outies. Only your cravings
for the office egg bar will give it away.
