It's happening, people! Filming for the upcoming "Wonder Woman" sequel is officially underway, and our fearless leaders have finally shared a glimpse into the DC film we are waiting not-so-patiently for. Oh, and we finally have a title!
Warner Bros. announced that the film will be called "Wonder Woman: 1984" and if the pictures we got are any indication, this time period will be taken very seriously.
Director and IRL Wonder Woman Patty Jenkins took to Twitter this morning to share a photo from the film, and it's quite a doozy. And by doozy, I mean I am having heart palpitations because WHAAAAT IS HAPPENING???
Yes, that is Steve Trevor. The same Steve Trevor that we saw literally get blown to smithereens in the first film. And yet here he is, looking as handsome as ever and very clearly alive. My first thought was that this could be a flashback scene, but that is quickly disproven by the classic '80s garb worn by those around him. The film takes place in 1984, a cool 65-ish years since the original. And our boy looks like he's aged maybe 10 years. Curious, no?
Gal Gadot also shared a photo and I've gotta say, I'm pretty bummed that we can't see her presumably awesome '80s hairdo.
I have a lot of questions. And someone needs to answer them for me. How is Steve Trevor alive? Maybe Superman flew in and pulled him out of the plane at the last minute? Maybe the goddesses in Themyscira somehow got him and brought him back to life? Maybe Diana actually has no idea that Steve is alive and he will just show up out of nowhere in WW84? I need to see this reunion happen.
WW84 isn't due out until November of 2019, but Kristin Wiig has already been confirmed to play Wonder Woman's nemesis in the film, Cheetah, and Pedro Pascal ("Game of Thrones," "Narcos") is rumored to be cast as well.
Until then, we have "Aquaman," DC's sad apology for "Justice League," to look forward to coming Dec. 21, 2018. Let's all say a prayer to the Amazons that this is a little better than its predecessor.
