The National Women's Soccer League is coming to Los Angeles. Following the World Cup win by the U.S. team last summer, a group of prominent women is coming together to create an expansion team out of southern California. With ownership led by Oscar-winning actress and activist Natalie Portman, the team is set to begin play during the 2022 season. "Next year is the Olympics, then we will start, then the following year is the Women’s World Cup. We’re coming in at an ideal time in 2022," Portman said. The NWSL was the first U.S. professional sports league to resume play after COVID-19 shutdowns when they returned to the field in June.
