Wikipedia serves a lot of purposes. It’s typically the first hit on Google when you search any random word or phrase; it’s an information well for what you need and what you really don’t need. But there’s a reason your high school teachers wouldn’t let you use it for your works cited pages in your essays: literally anyone can write anything on it.
That can be a good thing, since there are billions of people in this world and lots of them know things you don’t. But it’s not so great when you get the obvious fake stuff and pull it out when you’re trying to prove someone wrong (been there).
Wikipedia can also be the source of sometimes unbelievable stories. Though they may or may not be sourced from the people who have nothing better to do than write up Wikipedia articles, when you find a good Wiki, it’s sometimes tough to find your way out again. Here are seven pages that I’ve spent the better part of a day reading through.
