This week's pick: "Mindhunter," the harrowing tale of FBI agents Holden Ford (Jonathan Groff) and Bill Tench (Holt McCallany), their groundbreaking research into serial killings and the controversial interviews they conducted with real-life serial killers.
Based on the book "Mindhunter: Inside the FBI's Elite Serial Crime Unit" written by John E. Douglas, this true tale is the perfect show for you to binge this Thanksgiving when you lock yourself in a room to avoid another political conversation with Uncle Carl.
What's it about, you ask?
"Mindhunter" isn't your average cop show. It's no ordinary "NCIS" either. It's thrilling, funny, kick*ss and also, kinda scary! Ford is a starlet within the bureaucratic beast that is the FBI, determined to make real, impactful change. But it isn't until he meets Tench that things really start to take off in his career.
Through unprecedented access to serial killers in lockup, the dynamic duo discovers that there is a lot left to learn about these vicious murderers and what goes into making one. Unfortunately, Ford is constantly biting off more than he can chew, getting them both into trouble on and off the job.
But what makes it <i>different</i>?<div>And why should I care?</div>
Have you ever watched something that "rubbed you the wrong way" but in a good way? That's "Mindhunter" in a nutshell. Through suspense-building cinematography, oddly flat (yet somehow captivating) characters and a whole bunch of creepy serial killers, the show does a fantastic job reeling you in and keeping you close.
Also, the fact that it's based on a true story alone is reason enough to give it a watch. The interviews depicted are based off of real recordings, and some of them are ridiculously spot on.
