For the gals
Floppy hats and fascinators
A statement hat is everything to a proper Derby outfit, and there are variations to suit everyone out there. Want something you’ll actually wear again? Don a straw hat that can make an appearance at the beach this summer. Want to channel the royals? Add some feathers. Nothing is too extra when it comes to Derby headgear.
Dainty headbands
If you’re simply going for appearances and want to keep it super feminine, perhaps a fascinator-style headband will work. They’re smaller but still poofy and flouncy enough to complete your look. If nothing else, you’ll be thoroughly on theme.
Frilly, pastel dresses
The Kentucky Derby is always in the beginning of May, so every spring trend is fair game. Ruffles, florals, pastels, busy print -- do it all. Pretty much any style of dress will do, so long as it makes you feel sunny inside.
For the gents
Bow Ties
Clip-on or not, we don’t care! Just ensure that you pick a fun pattern and wear it well. The Derby is a semi-formal affair, but don’t be that guy that wears a normal tie to the party. If you have an excuse to wear a bow tie, take it.
Fun socks
No Nikes allowed at the Kentucky Derby! Your loafers and Oxfords should solely be complemented by dress socks, definitely patterned and preferably with a fun design.
