There are few things that are inherently good about the winter season, but we cling to them for dear life. Ski resorts are infiltrated, hot chocolate is consumed by the bucketfuls and we willingly subject ourselves to falling over on ice skates because it's one of the only fun outdoor things to do. When it comes to winter travel, though, we tend to head south -- craving warmth and sunshine, we want the beach and tropics. But if you can brave the freezing temps, cold-weather destinations can be equally as beautiful!
Take these lake regions, for example. Once winter rolls around, snow blankets the shores and the water freezes over, making for winter wonderland-esque getaways that deserve some attention this season, too.
