Wintertime blues, who? The air has gotten warmer and our hemlines have gotten shorter, which means it’s time to take advantage of both. While not all of us can be gym class heroes, it’s still nice to feel strong in your body, so if the gym makes you anxious or jogs are definitely not your thing, look elsewhere to find inspiration to meet your #gainz goals.
Truth be told, walking is top-tier cardio, so long as you’re keeping it as active as possible. Don’t believe me? Get your 10,000 steps in every day for a week and see how much your Apple Watch or FitBit loves you. Over the last year we all went for our little afternoon walks around the block trying to stay quarantine chic, but now that pandemic-era restrictions are easing, you can really ramp it up when you hit the sidewalk. Hold a quicker pace, incorporate hills, pump those arms to the beat of your music -- it’s going to burn calories just the same as running. Maybe not as quickly, but remember: If you run at too high an intensity, your body will eventually switch to burning muscle rather than fat, anyway. Sometimes, less is more.
That said, if you’re iffy on where to start, we have some ideas.
