No matter if you grew up in the '90s or not, you'd be hard pressed to find someone who doesn't remember the glorious decade filled with slap bracelets and boy bands. There is no doubt in my mind that my excellent negotiation skills originated with the bargaining I did for the best gel pens as a third grader, and I will forever be grateful for that. Now, the U.S. Postal Service is serving up a nostalgia-inducing treat to kick off the summer: scratch-and-sniff stamps.
According to USPS, the special edition Frozen Treats Forever stamps will feature "illustrations of frosty, colorful, icy pops on a stick" and be available at Austin, Texas locations starting June 20. Following the first-day-of-issue dedication ceremony, the stamps will also be available to order online.
The stamps were designed by California-based artist Margaret Berg, an illustrator who has been studying art for almost 20 years. Born and raised in South Africa, Berg moved to Los Angeles to attend the Otis College of Art and Design. She illustrates and designs for a wide array of clients from Hallmark to Penguin Books -- and now the U.S. Postal Service.
"Ice pops are made by large manufacturers, home cooks and artisanal shops," the Postal Service wrote in a press release. "In recent years, frozen treats containing fresh fruit such as kiwi, watermelon, blueberries, oranges and strawberries have become more common. In addition, flavors such as chocolate, root beer and cola are also popular. Some frozen treats even have two sticks, making them perfect for sharing."
With 10 different designs, these stamps are guaranteed to give your next snail mail a personal touch. Now all we need are some scented markers to address the envelopes with.
