Today, Donald Trump was named TIME magazine's Person of the Year. TIME chooses this person based on "who has had the most influence on events, for better or for worse." It's hard to argue that anyone had more influence than Donald Trump over the events of this year.
TIME asked Trump, "Do you feel changed by your election and how do you think, if I play this tape back in four or eight years, the office will have changed here?"
Trump responded, "Well it's a very humbling experience, I can tell you, as someone that loves this country. It's a very large country but it's also an even more powerful country than the numbers because if you look at China and India, and you have others with more people, but if you look at what we do in this country, it's the most incredible place on Earth."
According to the video announcing TIME's 2016 winner, the magazine recognizes that there are a lot of people that disagree with what Donald Trump has said, and Americans are apprehensive about what his presidency means for them and the country. But TIME includes that they would challenge those people to suggest someone else this year who had more influence, and in a way, a greater surprise than what he did in 2016.
As the cover suggests, Trump is the "President of the Divided States of America" and we know that is still very true. The reactions to TIME's choice have been good, bad and ugly. Scroll through the tweets below to get an idea on how people are feeling after the announcement.
