Due to the vast (1.2 million acres vast) coverage of the Ozark Mountains and surrounding forests, three different temperate zones take over the fall foliage here. As a result, the mountains experience a False Peak season (mid-October) where you’ll see scattered areas of really varied, vibrant color. And during the True Peak, the entire forest lights up, but with less bright hues. Either way, visitor centers there offer four different organized leaf-viewing guided tours.
