List1 of 5
I think saying that season 2 of “This is Us” was the tear-jerkiest arc of episodes to hit TV screens in a while is an acceptable take.
We finally watched Jack meet the demise that’s been teased since day one, but no amount of lead-in could have prepared anyone for Rebecca’s devastatingly strong reaction. The Deja storyline had us so invested, especially after the standalone feature episode played out her story from before the Pearsons became involved. We screamed at Kevin from our couches when he lost Sophie! Again!
But everything culminated in Kate and Toby’s wedding, which of course didn’t go off without a hitch but was nonetheless a perfectly sweet moment amidst all the turmoil. Don’t think I still didn’t drown myself in tears every time flashback Jack said “Katie-girl," though.
Toward the end of the previous season, however, we got a different type of cut-in: instead of going back in time, we’ve been flashed forward to an older Randall and Tess, with a reference to the two of them visiting “her,” whoever the hell “she” is. We’re led to believe it’s Deja, but I think we’re experienced enough to not believe what the show wants us to believe anymore.
All this being said, writer, executive producer and reason for my anxiety Dan Fogelman has revealed some plot points that we can expect to see in season 3. But be forewarned, we don't even have a release date yet.
Buckle up, folks.
