Golden retriever Ben Franklin doesn't look or act like your average criminal, and maybe 99 percent of the time he's on his best behavior. This week the 1-year-old golden retriever, who is a therapy dog with the Franklin Police Department in Massachusetts, was caught attempting to swipe a baby doll (with an accompanying car seat) from the organization's Santa Foundation toy drive.
One of the officers stopped Ben for questioning, but the canine sought sanctuary under a desk until his lawyer showed up.
"We learned an extremely valuable lesson today," the police department wrote on its Facebook page. "When you have a classroom full of toys ready to be shipped off to the Santa Foundation, you should...
1. Close the door to the classroom
2. Keep the toys elevated
If not, a golden retriever will slowly hoard them throughout the day and bring them back to his [sic] layer. Thanks to Officer Cusson for capturing this larceny on camera."
