There are three sure things in this world: death, taxes and the fact that almost every coupling in "The Office" was messy. It took Dwight and Angela the entire run to get over themselves enough to marry, poor Holly had to break up with Michael before they found their way and what even happened to Toby?
We all knew from the start that Jim and Pam were endgame and that Kelly would never actually get over Ryan, but a new theory from the people over at The Take have a different idea about who Kelly Kapoor's heart should have gone to: Andy Bernard.
Yes, Anger Management Andy.
The research is pretty in depth and even references "The Office: Subtle Sexuality," a webisode complementing the series that was born of Kelly and Erin's dreams to start a girl group. They claim that Ryan was actually the first to notice a spark between Andy and Kelly when he acted threatened after being replaced by Andy as Kelly's love interest in the music video they were producing.
The video goes on to detail little specifics from throughout the show that support the theory. For one, Kelly is Andy's first interest when he moves to the Scranton office before he ultimately shifts his attention to Angela. Considering how that turned out, perhaps he should have pursued Kelly from the start after all.
There's also a tidbit about when Andy sent the entire company Valentine's Day cards. Kelly accidentally received the most intimate one, and responded...delightfully, like she didn't mind the attention.
"I guess Andy likes me. I never thought of him in that way," she said in the episode. "I guess in most romantic comedies, the guy you're supposed to be with is the one you never thought of in that way." Obviously, that didn't pan out, since Andy was always into Erin.
They're basically the male and female versions of each other, so the theory stands up against most skepticism.
Was this the undiscovered solution to everyone's love story woes? Would Andy and Kelly have been happy together instead of constantly wondering if their romances were unrequited? Is Ed Helms the father of Mindy Kaling's baby?!
All questions for another day. If you're still not buying this whole thing, at least give The Take's video a watch.
