Yesterday, Instagram was flush with news from all angles of the show that "The Bold Type" would be returning for a fifth and final season. Which should be an exciting, albeit bittersweet, announcement...until you find out that the season has only been given a six-episode order. Six!!!
This is a great disservice. Here we were, thinking the show was on the up-and-up; after seasons 1 through 3 were only 10 episodes long, season 4 was given a whopping 18 (though they only made it through 16 before a shutdown) -- an appropriate size for an actual television show, if you ask me, in an era where one-season miniseries are taking over. I was excited to get more of Jane, Sutton and Kat going forward!
But, whether it be pandemic-related or simply how the cookie crumbled this time (or if it's something more political than that...), we'll have to say goodbye to our Scarlet girls over the course of just six hours. This isn't enough time for a final season regardless, but then you throw in the fact that there are so many loose ends for the writers to wrap up, and we're left wondering what, if anything, will get solved before the end.
Here are four questions that we're really preoccupied with.
