Since late January, 7-year-old Emma Mertens has been battling DIPG, an aggressive brain tumor that, in most cases, affects children between the ages of 5 and 7.
While Emma is being treated at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, she's requested letters from dogs to make her smile. So far, according to Good Morning America, Emma's received letters from all over the world, including Scotland, Venezuela and South Africa.
"The thing that brings Emma joy is seeing dogs, interacting with them," Kelly Zimmerman, Emma's neighbor and moderator of her GoFundMe page, told GMA. "It's a devastating diagnosis but seeing her smile in present day and seeing those moments has carried the hope for the family."
