Who said we had to wait until this summer to get more "Ted Lasso"?
Jason Sudeikis and the cast of the wildly popular Apple TV+ show got together to film a little sketch ahead of this weekend's Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards. Coach Lasso, Coach Beard, Nate the Great, Rebecca Welton and the rest of the AFC Richmond crew meet in the locker room, Lasso positioned under his signature "Believe" sign, to discuss the competition they're up against for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series.
I truly didn't realize how much I missed that Lasso twang until right now.
"Ted Lasso" is, admittedly, in a bit of a pickle, considering they're in the same category as "Schitt's Creek;" I'm not so worried about "Dead to Me" or "The Flight Attendant," since the former dark comedy's latest season was more dark than comedy and Kaley Cuoco's HBO Max breakout really shouldn't even be put in this category. And although "The Great" is, you know, great, I don't think it's received enough buzz to be a worthy contender. But "Schitt's Creek" has become the darling of the television world, coming off a historic sweep of the comedy categories at the Emmys, and since this is the last awards season it's eligible for (the show aired its final episode last April), they're the shoe-in.
But Sudeikis is definitely coming for the Levys' crown. "Ted Lasso," even though its first season was short and sweet, packed so much heart in that even the most cynical TV-watchers could agree that it's a must-watch. You never know whether to laugh or cry (happy or otherwise) while watching, and it somehow doesn't come off cliched or trite. That's due in part to the genius that Sudeikis brings to the character, but props to that writing team. Who knew soccer could be so beautiful?
To watch the full video, which I'm hoping will feature standout moments by love-of-my-life Roy Kent and his chipper girlfriend Keeley Jones, you'll have to tune in to the very beginning of the SAG Awards on April 4, airing on both TNT and TBS beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET.
