No one will soon forget the day that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot to become the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. After wowing the crowd with her custom Givenchy dress at St. George's Chapel, Meghan slipped into something a bit more comfortable for the reception at Frogmore House: an ivory, silk-crepe halter Stella McCartney dress with a high neck and open back which, if you ask me, was even more jaw-dropping than her ceremony gown.
Lucky for us mere common folk, McCartney has elected to run with the positive attention she got following the royal nuptials. With that, the British designer has officially introduced "Made with Love" bridal designs, an addition to her already extensive clothing line that takes "a new perspective on the traditional [wedding dress] that is effortless, confident and naturally sexy." And although Meghan's evening dress was also custom-made, there is a dress quite similar in the new collection. Swoon.
“When I designed this collection, I took some classic Stella McCartney pieces and relooked at them and reenergized them with the spirit that is now in the future of weddings -- the modern bride’s approach to her dress,” McCartney told Vogue.
She continued, “It was important to me to embody the core values of our house, so the collection has elements of sustainability as well. It truly reflects different ages, and I think so many different women come to us, so I really wanted to reflect that in the bridal offering,” she continues. “It is not just for one type of bride; it is truly made with love."
In true McCartney tradition, each of the 17 dresses in her new collection are made sustainable and environmentally-friendly. Crafted from luxe viscose, they also incorporate couture lace and chiffon. Each piece is made in Italy -- Puglia, Abruzzo and Marche, to be exact -- and created with the meticulous craftsmanship that McCartney's brand is known and loved for.
“It’s something that I feel very passionately about and is very close to my heart," McCartney writes on her website. "I think that in this day and age the wedding day is something very different to how it’s traditionally perceived, and I think that the house of Stella McCartney really represents something a little more effortless.”
The bridal collection is available now online, and will also be available at high-end retailers including Nordstrom.
