1. Naples and the Amalfi Coast
Tucci first traveled to the Campania region in southwestern Italy.
He ate, prayed and loved his way through Neapolitan pizza (both traditional
and fried), learned the art of mozzarella cheese-making from one of Italy’s
experts and found out what makes San Marzano tomatoes so good (it’s the soil).
Next, he hopped on a ferry to the island of Ischia, where he dined at Il Focolare, a hillside
restaurant famous for their rabbit. His wife Felicity joined him at
Lo Scoglio, a seaside restaurant that serves up the couple's favorite zucchini
pasta dish, spaghetti con le zucchine. He closed out the trip in Minori with
a multi-layered creamy dessert made with Amalfi lemons, delizia
al limone.
The region is also known for ancient ruins, Mt. Vesuvius (a stratovolcano) and emerald-blue
water. On the Amalfi Coast, towns dot the seaside cliffs.
