Big changes on the horizon, people! Snapchat has heard our cries for help and will fix the disastrous layout they introduced in February (kinda).
To try and appease its unhappy customers, Snapchat will reinstate the chronological order of your direct snaps and chat conversations and put stories back on the right-hand side of the home page. It sounds like it’ll feel more natural to navigate the app.
But they’ll still be separating “professional” content, aka Chrissy Teigen’s delirious pregnant ramblings and Snooki’s videos of her adorable kids. I still think there’s a section of algorithm missing here, but what do I know?
The new design was trippy enough to pique the criticism of a certain Jenner, which promptly turned the Internet against the app, if it hadn’t been turned already.
Snap Inc.’s shares fell almost 9 percent immediately after Kylie’s tweet was posted.
A Change.com petition was even created -- and signed by 1.2 million people, mind you -- begging for Snapchat to change its layout back. Isn’t it amazing the level of activism sparked by a minor inconvenience?
I’ve personally seen Snapchat usage among my own inner circle decrease, especially given the aesthetically-pleasing nature of Instagram’s story feature. I haven’t seen a puppy filter selfie in months.
Not that Snap was doing too hot, anyway. On May 1 -- when CEO Evan Spiegel first announced they’d rethink the redesign -- Snap’s earnings fell short, as they didn’t hit their user growth expectations and the stock dropped about 20 percent.
The newer new version is reportedly becoming available for most iOS users as we speak. No word on an Android update yet, but that seems like a them problem.
