Though not a stranger to the spotlight (she’s got too many titles under her belt to count), Serena Williams is fairly new to a different title: mom. Williams took a break from tennis for a bit while pregnant with her daughter, Olympia, born last September.
Olympia is nearly a year old now, and Williams is back playing tennis. She’s currently in London for Wimbledon, which is great, since she said when she was pregnant that her plan was always to return to the game right away. But keeping busy with her sport does, of course, come with implications.
One being that Olympia reportedly took her first steps while Williams was absent.
Sure, Williams is a bad*ss tennis champion, but she’s just as prone to the same motherly emotions all moms experience. Luckily for her, she has a large fanbase that includes other moms who were at the ready to ease her woes.
Moms are the best kind of girl gang; talk about powerful (childbirth, amirite?) and wise (kids know everything, therefore moms know everything). So it’s so, so sweet to see mothers across the country knowing exactly how Williams is feeling and sharing their own experiences with missing their kids’ milestones.
Our hearts go out to you, Serena! And we’ll be waiting for the vid when Olympia takes her first steps for you.
