Background
You're familiar with James Corden, right? Brit, actor, singer, late-night host, perpetrator of nonsense. "The Late Late Show with James Corden" is probably most famous for its Carpool Karaoke segments (even though that Harry Styles crosswalk concert may be my favorite thing to ever happen), where Corden takes a drive around with a singer in his passenger seat. The two have a chat, Corden usually gets some kind of personal tidbit about them and they belt out popular choruses together -- usually with Corden taking the impressive lead, actually.
Corden's Carpool Karaoke has seen the likes of the entire Cyrus family, Ariana Grande, Adele, Mariah Carey, Elton John, Stevie Wonder, the Foo Fighters and even Michelle Obama. It's a wacky way for Corden to bring his viewers closer to their favorite stars, and it's been a fan favorite for years.
Little did he know he was about to find himself in the midst of a most heinous scandal.
What happened?
As with anything else, a tweet went viral.
The clip features a bystander noticing Corden's karaoke car on a trailer attached to the back of a larger truck. The truck is what's making the car move, even though Corden can be seen simulating driving inside the car.
The shame of it all.
Corden's team was having none of it, though. Executive producer of "The Late Late Show," Ben Winston, took to Twitter to address the clip, and the show's official account laughed it off.
Plenty of fans came to their defense, too, posting photos they'd taken in the past wherein Corden is undoubtedly driving during other karaoke segments.
But was the damage already done? Was this cross too tough to bear? Is the future of Carpool Karaoke in jeopardy?
What do we think about it?
Frankly, the fact that this is headline-making news is hilarious, and the people acting like they're so shocked and confused are the same people who thought Panera Bread's mac 'n' cheese didn't come from the freezer.
The believers will tell you that, yes, of course he drives, you can see it in most of the videos' exterior shots! But the skeptics will come right back with "iT's AlL AbOuT tHe EdItInG."
But...who cares if he's driving or not? It's all about the entertainment, anyway, and if Corden can do weirder stuff while not actually driving, let's do it.
What does everybody else think?
It's mostly laughs from actual viewers. I mean, it's silly, and the vast majority of people are obviously not worried about it.
Our thoughts and prayers are with "The Late Late Show" crew during this difficult time.
