Before we start, I want to clear one thing up: if you have a Pandora bracelet and you genuinely enjoy it, then good for you. This sketch isn't intended to make you feel bad about your fashion choices. You do you, as they say.
But for every woman who genuinely enjoys her Pandora bracelet, there are roughly a million other women who hate the fashion trend (that's definitely an over exaggeration, but I digress). The thing that sucks about this particular jewelry item, however, is that once someone gifts you with one, they can keep giving you related do-dads to hang from said bracelet for years to come. This isn't just a one-off necklace; Pandora is for life.
That means countless dads, boyfriends and estranged aunts have been giving the women in their lives Pandora charms for years now; charms that say, "I vaguely know something about you, so here's a tiny shoe the color of your birthstone to hang from your wrist!" Like I said before, if you genuinely enjoy these gifts, then that's fine. But for every other woman stuck in an endless gift cycle of cheesy charms, it's time to break that (literal) chain.
"Saturday Night Live" crafted the perfect rallying cry for all the women out there, fed up with their Pandora bracelets. In a skit aptly titled "Holiday Jewelry," three women tell their tales of an endless stream of unwanted charms from their well-meaning husbands.
"I got Greg a motorcycle," Kate McKinnon tells her friends at a holiday party, while looking forlornly at the new Pandora coffee cup charm dangling from her wrist.
Let this fake commercial serve as a warning to anyone looking for that perfect gift for the women in their life: the perfect gift circa 2010 doesn't necessarily work in 2017. So please, unless she actually asked for a new Pandora charm this year, just get her a gift card to the spa instead.
