Oh, you thought Oct. 23 was just an average day? No, sir -- today is the day that both Ryan Reynolds and Emilia Clarke celebrate a birthday. As Reynolds turns 44 and Clarke turns 34, both stars are sharing their celebrations on social media in ways that are just so on brand for the both of them.
For Reynolds, that’s internet trolling. He decided -- for himself and everyone else -- that he would be moving Clarke’s birthday so he could have the 23rd all to himself.
Of course, Reynolds has a large circle of admirers friends who were quick to wish him well, including frenemy Hugh Jackman, his own Aviation Gin...and even Canada. Like, the literal country.
While being just slightly offensive on social media is undoubtedly Reynolds’ favorite pastime, he also celebrated his birthday a little early, in a more meaningful way: He and wife Blake Lively took to the polls (the mail-in polls, that is) to vote in the presidential election, marking the Canadian Reynolds’ first time casting a ballot in the U.S. Reynolds received his American citizenship sometime in 2018.
Clarke, meanwhile, couldn’t be bothered with Reynolds’ lackluster attempt at insult; she was too busy jumping out of a plane to celebrate her birthday.
The "Game of Thrones" actress took flight from Hinton Skydiving Centre in Steane, England as a way to offset what she called “the profound existential terror of another birthday,” her signature wide grin following her the whole way back down to Earth. The hashtags she used on the post (Clarke is famously overrelaxed with her hashtags) are also, as usual, on point.
To her defense, Clarke isn’t quite active on Twitter (despite her account 1.2 million followers, she’s tweeted exactly once in her life, and that was back in 2013), so she may not even have a chance at rebuttal with Reynolds. But her friends are looking out for her birthday on social media, too.
Who do you think is having a better birthday today?
