When we're born, Saturn is at one specific place in its orbit around the sun. It takes between 27-30 years for it to make a full orbit (or return) to its original place. Basically, in astrological lore, Saturn is kind of like a parent or life coach who's telling you to get your sh*t together.
The first 30 or so years of our lives are full of the truths we don't want to face or can't figure out, and it's quite confusing. Saturn can feel like a rude wakeup call, when really it's coaxing you to work through the hard stuff and end up better off because of it. Real talk: it's OK to feel Gwen Stefani-level moody in the meantime.
