As much as we love the glamour shots and behind-the-scenes clips that celebs share on social media, we also love the relatable, at-home, heartwarming posts that aren't all about fame and flashing lights. "Fight Song" singer Rachel Platten gave us one of those rare human connection moments yesterday while she was out on a walk with her dog, Dino.
In an Instagram video filmed with her emotions on full display, Platten explained how her dog had done his business on the street, but she was without a doggy bag. She knocked on someone's door to ask for one and met Gloria, a 97-year-old woman who had lost her son and had no grandchildren.
"She told me, she said she's so lonely. She plays piano, and I told her I'm a singer, so she said, 'Would you sit down and I could play for you?'" Platten said. "So Dino and I are just sitting outside her house listening through her door."
In her caption, Platten noted that Gloria is a former professional pianist who hasn't had anyone to play for in a long while, so Platten's impromptu visit gave her a much-needed outlet. During the video, you can clearly hear Gloria's music spilling out onto her stoop to where Platten sits and listens, and the beautiful melodies and dramatic crescendos are so, so worthy of a proper audience.
"It was so beautiful and afterwards she told me after that she was going to start playing again now. I told her I'd come visit her with [my daughter] Violet and we’d play in her yard sometimes," Platten wrote.
Everyone in the comments was so taken with this little story, noting things like, "Oh this makes my heart smile and break at the same time! What a blessing you are to her today ❤️" and, "Dino knew!! What a beautiful story...I loved hearing my mom play the piano...xo."
"It's not an accident that we stopped at this woman's house and we're listening to her beautiful music," Platten said.
