June 15th, people. It’s coming.
“Queer Eye,” that is. The Netflix show revealed on Twitter that the second season of their reboot series (originally “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy”) will be available for your bingeing pleasure next Friday.
In preparation, Australian singer-songwriter Betty Who sang a rendition of their theme song with the Fab Five showing off their fiercest catwalks in the background.
First of all, this video is a gift. Betty Who, whose singles include “Heartbreak Dream” and “Beautiful,” if you haven’t taken a listen, gives the song a sweet croon, and I’m glad to see that the cast of “Queer Eye” is still just the way we left them: sauve and subtly sassy.
And that sass is doing great things for these guys -- just a few weeks ago they garnered some attention when they trolled Antoni for posting this photo on Instagram.
Jonathan, Bobby, Karamo and (eventually) Tan followed up with their own versions of the photo.
But back to the video. As if Antoni wasn’t already my favorite, he filmed this video in a cropped sweatshirt (I know he has a boyfriend, but hi) and carried around a bunch of avocados in one shot. This is presumably to clap back at all those social media fiends who poke fun at how often he employs avocado as an ingredient in the recipes he talks about on the show, and I’m loving it.
We also have Karamo surrounded by tissue boxes, because he knows how much we all cried during season 1. I appreciate that he’s preparing us this time.
The one part I am confused about, however, is the end of the video, where the Five drive up into the sky with their bedazzled truck. Did anyone else get “Grease” vibes, that end scene where Sandy and Danny drive away into the clouds?
Whatever the case, it’s been an exciting time for “Queer Eye.” Tan and Antoni have announced their respective memoir and cookbook, Karamo got engaged (!!!) and there’s been a few “Queer Eye” weddings since season 1: both Tom and Abby and AJ and Drey have tied the knot.
All the more excited for season 2!
