Another holiday commercial is taking the internet by storm, this time in a YouTube ad for Poland's online marketplace, Allegro.
Now, I may be biased because I grew up very Polish, but I have to say that the little man in this commercial is one of the most adorable Polish grandfathers I've ever seen. Others seem to agree, considering the ad has been viewed over 4.3 million times -- a number that continues to grow. Comments on the video are a general consensus of "I'm not crying...you're crying," and for good reason.
The ad tells the story of an elderly man who orders an "English for Beginners" book online, presumably from Allegro. He works on his English throughout the video, even putting sticky notes on objects around his home to remember their names. He practices speaking to his rubber duck in the bathroom and even shouts "I love you, you're perfect" while riding a public bus around town.
Finally, his suitcase arrives in the mail -- he's ready. Where is he going? Well, you'll just have to watch to find out what happens next. Try not to cry, I dare you.
"The story we are telling is all-purpose and can be easily understood by any other nation or community who can easily link the happy ending of a smile and tears of emotion to their daily human experience," a spokesperson for Allegro told BuzzFeed.
According to Adweek, "It's about young people leaving home for faraway lands, and the world growing smaller and more intimate, the fruit of diverse families. It's about the role English plays in unifying cultures whose differences in language may feel insurmountable."
