The first teaser trailer for Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" premiered on Sunday, and shiver me timbers, it's fantastic. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit skeptical of the future of this franchise after the last two "Pirates" movies -- let's be honest, no one can beat the OG "Dead Man's Chest" -- but hopefully the next chapter in the Captain Jack series will make up for the disappointment that was "On Stranger Tides."
The teaser focuses on the rotting figure of Captain Salazar, who will spend the film pursuing Jack Sparrow along with his crew of ghost pirates. (Anyone else wondering why everyone is always dead in these films?) Salazar and his crew have escaped from the Devil's Triangle and set out to kill every pirate in their path. Jack, obviously, is having none of this while he's busy on the hunt for the Trident of Poseidon. Sparrow is notably absent from this trailer, which makes me even more excited for the next one, TBH.
The good news? We'll get plenty of Will Turner time in this film, as Orlando Bloom is scheduled to be back in action as the newly appointed captain of the Flying Dutchman (he did not appear in the fourth installment, "On Stranger Tides"). If he's anything like Davy Jones, expect him to look a lot more...fishy in this movie compared to last. RIP to sexy Captain Turner.
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" hits theaters spring 2017.
