It takes a very strong person to run the United States. But even the president is human and in the case of President Obama, he's also a dad with two teen daughters. So it should come as no surprise that Obama had the most dad reaction when asked about how he's dealing with Sasha and Malia's potential dating lives.
In an interview with North Carolina radio station WDCJ, Obama said that he was "pretty relaxed" about the fact that Sasha and Malia, ages 15 and 18 (respectively), have started dating.
But why exactly is he so relaxed? Maybe because the first daughters "have Secret Service," the president explained. "There's only so much these guys can do! These poor young men come by the house." And yes, by "house" he means the White House. 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. The place where you need to submit a full background check before even dreaming of the chance to step foot in it.
Obama went on to also credit First Lady Michelle Obama with teaching their daughters to respect themselves and not date duds to begin with. "Michelle, she's such a great example of how she carries herself, her self-esteem not depending on boys to validate how you look or, you know, not letting yourself be judged by anything other than your character and intelligence," the president said.
On one hand, I'm glad my dad never had the power of the Secret Service standing on his side when I brought my high school boyfriends home. But on the other hand, it might have helped weed out some of the losers. I guess only Sasha and Malia (plus the other first daughters who were teens in the White House) will ever know if having Secret Service agents accompanying your dates to the movies is a good or a bad thing!
