Since the release of "Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life," fans of the series have been throwing around plenty of theories about the outcome of the characters. Those fateful final four words still have everyone's head spinning, and no one can really decide what they think Rory will do next. Where does she end up? Who does she end up with?
One widely-accepted theory is that Rory's life has a direct parallel to Lorelai's. In their love lives specifically, it's easy to make connections between Lor's great loves and those of her daughter. If this is the case, that means that Logan is Rory's Christopher (spoiled rich kid, reckless behavior) and Jess is Rory's Luke (the one who's always been there and she will eventually settle down with). It makes sense, and I am quick to believe it if for no other reason than that would mean Rory ultimately ends up with Jess.
A far less publicized theory parallels Rory not with that of her mother, but with her grandmother, Emily Gilmore. As reported by Refinery29, a user recently commented on their Facebook page and pointed out some stark similarities between the two situations.
"Emily and Richard met at Yale," R29 user Kelsey Davis posted. "Richard was engaged to someone his family approved of, while Emily was the other woman. Richard broke his engagement to be with Emily. Maybe Rory and Logan are Emily and Richard, not Lorelai and Christopher."
This theory definitely has some merit, and I can understand why people are so fascinated by it. Rory and Logan did meet at Yale, just like Emily and Richard did (Emily went to Smith at the time, but they met at a Yale party). Richard was all set to marry his classmate Pennilyn Lott -- the girl that his family approved of. In the revival, Logan is set to marry the French heiress Odette, who is no doubt loved by the Huntzberger family.
The night before Richard was set to marry Emily, his mother Trix sent Richard a letter begging him not to marry her and to ultimately choose Lott instead. One can see this as a parallel to the infamous dinner at the Huntzberger household, when Logan's mother Shira told Rory that she wasn't good enough for their family.
It's not hard to see in the revival that Logan would rather be with Rory than Odette (hello, they're sleeping together), and is simply with her to please his family. Obviously, one big difference between Rory/Logan and Emily/Richard is the baby that Rory has on the way. Perhaps this is an added push for Logan to actually leave Odette, be with Rory and start a family? If we know anything about Logan, it's that he cares a little too much about what his family thinks, even though he pretends not to.
I'm more inclined to believe this theory the more I read about it, mostly because of the big part Emily played in "A Year in the Life." After years of Emily running Richard's household and playing the "wife" role, we finally see her step out of her shell and do what she wants for a change. As one reddit user puts it, "This makes me want a prequel with a young Emily. Especially after seeing her 'bullshit' scene. I feel like she was feistier back then than she'd admit." I have no doubt that Emily fought a lot harder for Richard's heart all those years ago than the show let on, and I would think that Rory would fight for Logan's heart if the baby is, in fact, his.
This theory is bad news for Jess fans, because it would mean that Rory ultimately ends up with Logan. But can you blame the girl for wanting to be with the father of her child? Then again, Mama Lorelai had zero interest in being with Rory's father when she got pregnant.
Would Rory rather be an independent single mother, following in her mother's footsteps? Or would she rather fight for what/who she wants (if that is Logan), eventually running a household just like Emily did for Richard? Ultimately, is Rory more like Lorelai or Emily?
