Will Disney's Move to Put "Mulan" on Disney+ Work out for the Better?

As the film industry struggles to get their momentum going again after COVID-19 shutdowns, big-budget films that had been set for release within the past six months have had to make a choice: delay their premiere or go straight to on-demand streaming. Christopher Nolan's "Tenet," for example, was delayed multiple times and still won't be available everywhere for who knows how long. Meanwhile, Disney was holding out on their live-action "Mulan," a $200 million film that was set to be a huge global release (the Chinese market would have brought in big bucks). Alas, even Disney dreams can die: "Mulan" won't premiere in theaters in the U.S. and will now be available on Disney+ as of Sept. 4, and not without the catch of an extra $30 purchase fee on top of subscribers' monthly charge. Plus, the studio will be forgoing a theatrical release in any country where the streamer has launched, ruffling the feathers of movie houses across the pond.
