Sir Tom Moore, the World War II captain who famously raised millions of pounds for U.K. healthcare workers by walking laps in his backyard in April 2020, died from complications due to COVID-19. He was 100.
Condolences were sent to Moore's family, most notably from the Queen herself, who knighted him in July for his fundraising efforts.
Tonight, at the encouragement of Prime Minister Boris Johnson, people up and down the U.K. stepped outside at 6:00 pm. local time to #ClapForTom and show the world how much of an impact he had in the last 10 or so months of his life.
Some stepped out to clap, while others shared meaningful photos on social media. Either way, they showcased the difference Moore made in 2020.
