Many moms have joked that they’re popping a bottle of
champagne when the kids go back to school. After all, it’s been a long, hot summer
of “Mom, he’s sitting too close to me,” and “I want a snack” on repeat. One group of moms decided to take it to the next level way; rather than sit down for your standard boozy brunch, they rented a party boat. After the "first day of school" pics were snapped, all the moms loaded up for a lake cruise so they
could celebrate such a joyous occasion.
The tradition started in 2016. Abby Lane of Coppell, Texas
and four other local moms decided to take a double-decker pontoon boat out after sending their kids off to another year of school. According
to Babble, the next year, word got out and it grew to 100 moms sailing away on
Lake Lewisville in Lewisville, Texas.
The tradition continued this year with yet
another full party boat of moms, adult beverages, food and fun. If it was
anything like last year’s bash, they doubled-down on the food part. “Because we
are moms, there was an excess of food,” Lane told Babble. “Like two days worth,
and we were only on the water for three hours.”
This year’s blowout even had an after-boat pool party so
the fun could continue until the buses came home. Lane wrote on Facebook that the affair ended
with “hugs and hysterical laughter to be heard for
streets away.”
These moms are clearly living their best lives and are reminding us that self-care is an important part of parenting. We hope Abby
Lane and her friends’ annual excursion inspires parents everywhere to give
themselves a pat on the back for another summer in the books and maybe organize
their own day cruises. Seriously, you broke up fights, handed out popsicles and supervised summer reading and math. You deserve at least one day to relax.
