Imagine checking on your sleeping baby and seeing a ghost in its crib.
Do you panic? Burn some sage? Move houses altogether?
It was a dilemma that stay-at-home mom of two Maritza Cibuls had to contest with last week. After putting her toddler boy down for bed, Cibuls checked the baby monitor some time later and saw what she could only describe as a ghost baby.
Home alone, Cibuls called her husband, who reassured her that it was likely just their son's drool casting a creepy shadow on his mattress.
Alas, that was not the case, and Cibuls had to investigate, flashlight in hand. Still, she couldn't figure out where the shadowy face was coming from.
"At first I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me," she told Buzzfeed. "I tried to ignore but it was really starting to creep me out, [even though] the rational part of my brain was telling me there was a logical explanation."
It took a restless night's sleep and some additional daylight investigating for Cibuls to figure out what the "apparition" actually was.
Turns out, Cibuls' husband simply forgot to put the topper back on the crib's mattress when he had recently changed the sheets, which explains why she'd never seen the "ghost baby" before.
I would have been outta that house faster than the ghost could say "boo," so at least she didn't overreact!
