Despite your opinions about "Big Little Lies," there's no doubt that the addition of Meryl Streep as Mary Louise Wright, mother of the not-so-dearly departed Perry, was HBO bringing their A game. In a show that's already so meme-able -- Renata's tantrum scene, for example, is a big mood -- Streep stood out for her blood-curdling scream in episode 2. Not that this is the first time Streep has memed herself: Remember how she cheered on Debbie Reynolds at the 2015 SAG Awards?
Even though season 2 of "Big Little Lies" aired too late for this year's Primetime Emmy nominations, fans and critics alike are vouching for Streep based on this scream alone; of course, she was great throughout the whole season, but a big scream really takes the cake. In case you forgot just how brilliant it was, here's a rewatch (skip to 0:40 for the good stuff):
But perhaps the best thing to come out of Streep's scream is a minute-and-a-half remix by King Princess (aka Mikaela Straus), a singer-songwriter and music producer from Brooklyn. She's done the Lord's work, here.
The remix, titled "Mary-Luiz (Plz Plz)" instantly transported me to a sweaty club, and I may have temporarily fist-pumped at my desk -- it bumps, is my point.
While the remix is an obvious example of professional sound mixing, it's also obviously a spoof-y, fun type of thing, which made us think about another spoof-y, fun take on a song: the goat remix of Taylor Swift's "I Knew You Were Trouble," in which a bleating goat replaces Swift's Oh!s throughout the chorus.
I never thought I'd be comparing Queen Meryl Streep to a lowly goat, but here we are. Whose scream does more for the music industry: Meryl or said goat? Up-vote your favorite scream!
